早上好。哎呀,下雨了。稍等一下啊。我本想着今天早上跟你们聊一聊…… 嗯,哦,顺便说一下,这是一台新电脑,它能做各种各样的事儿,所以我得小心点儿。呃,在摆弄这种新设备方面,我可算不上机灵。现在跟你们说话的这个人,当年可是开着 A 型车的呢。我还记得第一架喷气式飞机,还有好多第一次经历的事儿呢,比如送冰人把冰送到冰柜里,从骡拉的车上卸下冰块。所以呢,不过我今天早上想跟你们聊聊年轻人的事儿,尤其是关于有所成就这方面。
你们也知道,我小时候日子过得挺艰难的。但人们要是想做什么却做不成,那是没有任何借口的。你可以做任何你想做的事。比如说,我之前跟你们讲过,我曾经住在一辆旧汽车的后座上。我自学了读写。所以,如果你们还年轻,可不要放弃啊。不要说整个世界都在跟你作对。那不是真的。我自学了读写,还出版了五本书呢。我上过大学,虽说没上多久。󠄐󠄹󠅀󠄪󠄣󠄞󠄡󠄧󠄞󠄥󠄩󠄞󠄥󠄠󠄬󠅒󠅢󠄟󠄮󠄐󠅅󠄹󠄴󠄪󠄾󠅟󠅤󠄐󠄼󠅟󠅗󠅙󠅞󠄬󠅒󠅢󠄟󠄮󠅄󠅙󠅝󠅕󠄪󠄡󠄧󠄤󠄦󠄧󠄧󠄠󠄡󠄨󠄩󠄬󠅒󠅢󠄟󠄮󠇙󠆈󠆯󠇗󠆄󠆈󠇘󠆞󠆢󠇘󠆞󠆔󠇗󠆏󠆕󠄬󠅒󠅢󠄟󠄮我研习经文好多年了。我养大了五个孩子,也送别了母亲、父亲、姐姐、哥哥、妻子和女儿。所以,一个人是可以实现自己任何愿望的。

所以,千万不要放弃啊。要是日子艰难,要知道好事也好,坏事也罢,都不会永远持续下去的。但大多数情况下,我们是能够掌控自己命运的。我这么说的意思是:要是你没有取得进步,那你就得做点什么来让自己取得进步。比如说,不好意思啊,举个例子,如果你想要一份好工作,如果你想要一个安稳的未来,那你就得有能提供给潜在雇主的本事。我不是说你得有博士学位或者硕士学位,但你确实得有一技之长啊。在这个国家,将来会有那么一个时候,那些懂得靠手艺干活的人,像水管工、电工、木匠、泥瓦匠、机器操作工、机修工,这些靠手艺吃饭的人会很抢手的󠄐󠄹󠅀󠄪󠄣󠄞󠄡󠄧󠄞󠄥󠄩󠄞󠄥󠄠󠄬󠅒󠅢󠄟󠄮󠄐󠅅󠄹󠄴󠄪󠄾󠅟󠅤󠄐󠄼󠅟󠅗󠅙󠅞󠄬󠅒󠅢󠄟󠄮󠅄󠅙󠅝󠅕󠄪󠄡󠄧󠄤󠄦󠄧󠄧󠄠󠄡󠄨󠄩󠄬󠅒󠅢󠄟󠄮󠇙󠆈󠆯󠇗󠆄󠆈󠇘󠆞󠆢󠇘󠆞󠆔󠇗󠆏󠆕󠄬󠅒󠅢󠄟󠄮。没错,确实如此,要想成为工程师、医生或者律师,那得接受教育、参加培训。但跟你们说实话吧,我工作了 60 年,挺成功的,还创办了几家企业呢。我算不上是个富有的人,但我是从住在旧汽车后座上走过来的,现在能过上舒适的退休生活,还能通过这个东西跟你们聊天呢。

I thought I’d talk to you a little bit this morning about… uh, oh, by the way, this is a new computer and it does all kinds of things, so I have to be careful. Uh, I’m not󠄐󠄹󠅀󠄪󠄣󠄞󠄡󠄧󠄞󠄥󠄩󠄞󠄥󠄠󠄬󠅒󠅢󠄟󠄮󠄐󠅅󠄹󠄴󠄪󠄾󠅟󠅤󠄐󠄼󠅟󠅗󠅙󠅞󠄬󠅒󠅢󠄟󠄮󠅄󠅙󠅝󠅕󠄪󠄡󠄧󠄤󠄦󠄧󠄧󠄠󠄡󠄨󠄩󠄬󠅒󠅢󠄟󠄮󠇙󠆈󠆯󠇗󠆄󠆈󠇘󠆞󠆢󠇘󠆞󠆔󠇗󠆏󠆕󠄬󠅒󠅢󠄟󠄮 the sharpest tack in the box when it comes to this new equipment. You’re talking to a guy or a guy is speaking to you now that started driving a Model A car. I remember the first jet airplane and many first things. The Iceman delivering ice to an ice box, taking it off of a mule-drawn wagon. So, but I’d like to speak to you a little bit this morning about young people, in particular about accomplishing things.
When I was young, as you know, I had a difficult childhood. But there’s no, no excuse for people not being able to do what they want to 󠄐󠄹󠅀󠄪󠄣󠄞󠄡󠄧󠄞󠄥󠄩󠄞󠄥󠄠󠄬󠅒󠅢󠄟󠄮󠄐󠅅󠄹󠄴󠄪󠄾󠅟󠅤󠄐󠄼󠅟󠅗󠅙󠅞󠄬󠅒󠅢󠄟󠄮󠅄󠅙󠅝󠅕󠄪󠄡󠄧󠄤󠄦󠄧󠄧󠄠󠄡󠄨󠄩󠄬󠅒󠅢󠄟󠄮󠇙󠆈󠆯󠇗󠆄󠆈󠇘󠆞󠆢󠇘󠆞󠆔󠇗󠆏󠆕󠄬󠅒󠅢󠄟󠄮do. I taught myself to read and write. So if you’re young, don’t give up. Don’t say the world is just against me. That’s not true. I taught myself to read and write. I’ve had five books published. I went to college, got a little bit of college. I’ve studied scripture for many, many years. I’ve raised five children. I’ve buried a mother, father, sister, brother, wife, and daughter. So a person can accomplish anything that they want.
One time to prove󠄐󠄹󠅀󠄪󠄣󠄞󠄡󠄧󠄞󠄥󠄩󠄞󠄥󠄠󠄬󠅒󠅢󠄟󠄮󠄐󠅅󠄹󠄴󠄪󠄾󠅟󠅤󠄐󠄼󠅟󠅗󠅙󠅞󠄬󠅒󠅢󠄟󠄮󠅄󠅙󠅝󠅕󠄪󠄡󠄧󠄤󠄦󠄧󠄧󠄠󠄡󠄨󠄩󠄬󠅒󠅢󠄟󠄮󠇙󠆈󠆯󠇗󠆄󠆈󠇘󠆞󠆢󠇘󠆞󠆔󠇗󠆏󠆕󠄬󠅒󠅢󠄟󠄮 to myself that I was not an ignorant person, I bought a blackboard and I purchased a correspondence course for computer programming and I completed it with the blackboard. So, forge ahead. Don’t stop. Never stop learning. Always reach out to better yourself because when you do that, things expand. You understand more. You’re happier. You’re healthier. This old saying that if you don’t use it, you lose it is absolutely true. So don’t, don’t give up. If times are hard, good things nor bad things last forever. But most genera󠄐󠄹󠅀󠄪󠄣󠄞󠄡󠄧󠄞󠄥󠄩󠄞󠄥󠄠󠄬󠅒󠅢󠄟󠄮󠄐󠅅󠄹󠄴󠄪󠄾󠅟󠅤󠄐󠄼󠅟󠅗󠅙󠅞󠄬󠅒󠅢󠄟󠄮󠅄󠅙󠅝󠅕󠄪󠄡󠄧󠄤󠄦󠄧󠄧󠄠󠄡󠄨󠄩󠄬󠅒󠅢󠄟󠄮󠇙󠆈󠆯󠇗󠆄󠆈󠇘󠆞󠆢󠇘󠆞󠆔󠇗󠆏󠆕󠄬󠅒󠅢󠄟󠄮lly, we are in control of our own destiny. And when I say that, I mean this: if you’re not getting ahead, you need to do something to allow yourself to get ahead. For an example, excuse me, for an example, if you want a good job, if you want a secure future, you have to have something to offer a perspective employer. Now, I’m not saying you need a PhD or a master’s degree, but you do have to have something to offer. There’s going to be a time in this country that people that know how to work with their hands, plumbers, electricians, carpenters, cement layers, machine operators, mechanics, people that know how to work with their hands are going to be in great demand. Yes, it’s true. You have to have education and training to be an engineer or a doctor or a lawyer. But I’ll tell you the truth. I spent 60 years working. I was successful. I’ve started a couple of businesses. I’m not a wealthy [Music] man, but I’m a guy that came from living in the back of an old car to ha󠄐󠄹󠅀󠄪󠄣󠄞󠄡󠄧󠄞󠄥󠄩󠄞󠄥󠄠󠄬󠅒󠅢󠄟󠄮󠄐󠅅󠄹󠄴󠄪󠄾󠅟󠅤󠄐󠄼󠅟󠅗󠅙󠅞󠄬󠅒󠅢󠄟󠄮󠅄󠅙󠅝󠅕󠄪󠄡󠄧󠄤󠄦󠄧󠄧󠄠󠄡󠄨󠄩󠄬󠅒󠅢󠄟󠄮󠇙󠆈󠆯󠇗󠆄󠆈󠇘󠆞󠆢󠇘󠆞󠆔󠇗󠆏󠆕󠄬󠅒󠅢󠄟󠄮ving a nice retirement and to be able to talk to you on this thing.

You’re the backbone of this country. You’re the backbone of the world. I don’t care if you’re in Asia, Africa, Korea, Japan. I don’t care where you are in the United States.
